Grateful For Meaningful Work, Personal Connection and Laughter that Heals at Traditions at Beaumont

When Bob is not travelling to Texas or Florida, he is the star of Happy Hour and Traditions of Beaumont TV commercials, tour guide to his garden home and self-described spitfire. At 93 years old, Bob is a big believer in the merits of staying active and connected to others—something that’s easy to do in our community.

Bob isn’t the only one who feels at home when he walks in the doors. We are a family to residents as they are to us. We like to say we have 142 grandparents and counting.

Laughter and love are healing. So we weave it into everything we do.

Johnna, our Activity Director began working as a part-time Activity Assistant when her mother moved in in 2015. After her mother passed, Johnna saw how valuable this time was and how we all yearn for connection and new experiences, no matter our age. That’s when she decided to join us full time, hosting local school children for bingo and other intergenerational programming, and planning epic events—bucket list adventures like fancy restaurant dining, a trip to the Derby Playhouse, even a hot air balloon ride.

Abbye, our Executive Director is a Certified Dementia Practitioner in training, an active member of the Kentucky Senior Living Association’s Education and Conference Planning committee, the Fern Creek Chamber of Commerce and Friends of the Fern Creek Library. This fall, Abbye and her team raised $2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. Their hope is to raise even more during this month’s chili cook off and silent auction, with proceeds to support the Parkinson’s Support Center.

When a man came in recently in crisis over his wife’s dementia and increasingly violent eruptions, we listened with empathy as he outlined his guilt and grief in not being able to care for her after more than 60 years of marriage. Caring begins long before a resident moves in, and is so vital to the way residents and loved ones cope with changes. We’re happy to say his wife is now thriving in our Varietas program, especially with his daily visits. And he can enjoy her company without caregiver strain. We continue to share moments and memories with both of them.

Abbye and Rebekah, our Community Relations Director are blessed with the spirit to serve and support our residents and families in good times and through the struggles. Residents and family members will be invited to our new support group designed to address the challenges that come with downsizing, the loss of a spouse and move-in concerns. And family members and friends can join us once a month for Memory Keepers, a dementia support group.

Tonisha, one of our servers came in every day and worked with so much passion and purpose, she was promoted to Lead Server and recently, Assistant Chef.

And since the local public library closed its doors, Abbye and her team are starting a once-a-month Pop-up Library for seniors, as well as publishing a cookbook, with recipes from residents, staff and families.

We are here for each other, holding hands, crying together in life’s inevitable difficult moments and rejoicing in old and new friendships, memories and experiences, We do meaningful work here and we’re reminded each day of that fact.

You are welcome at Traditions at Beaumont anytime and we hope you’ll join us for a meal, activity or tour. Please call us at (502) 231-4522 or www.TraditionsatBeaumont.com to find out more or to find the answers you’re looking for. We would love to meet you.
